MUT

Concept, Dramatugy and Dance : Tiziana Longo

Music Composition: Hoshiko Yamane

Concept

MUT (the German word for courage) is a solo performance examining how media noise, social narratives, and fragmented storytelling shape our perception of self, others, and the world. Through physical embodiment, MUT situates the dancer’s body within the relentless flow of global news, exploring how information both overwhelms and defines us.

Instead of conveying fixed narratives, the choreography enacts a lived, somatic response to media saturation and its intersection with human experience. The performance draws from personal conversations with women and refugees across continents, bringing their stories into visceral relation with individual and collective perception.

Accompanied by haunting live music by Hoshiko Yamane, MUT’s visual and auditory layers interact with the movement, turning printed news into expanding sculptural volumes and shifting emotional fields that the performer must negotiate physically.

Why MUT Matters Now — Relevance to Berlin & Today

In the current moment, Berlin — as a crossroads of global culture, migration, and political discourse — provides a unique context for re-staging MUT. The work resonates with ongoing discussions around media acceleration, identity politics, and the embodied experience of information overload.

- Critical Engagement with Media: MUT transforms the abstract noise of global news into embodied experience, inviting audiences to confront how media saturates consciousness and shapes judgment.

- Migration and Narrative: Drawing from fieldwork with refugees and women from multiple cultural backgrounds, MUT gives corporeal presence to voices often obscured in mass media.

- Embodied Resistance: The performance invites viewers into a space of reflection, courage, and endurance — qualities deeply pertinent in an era marked by political polarization, ecological crisis, and information fragmentation.

By re-presenting MUT in Berlin, the work enters a cultural landscape eager for performance that foregrounds critical thinking, social engagement, and poetic physicality.

Shimiru 染みる in giapponese significa permeare.

inbevuto
respira trame incarnate , pieghe

In the frame of the Initiative "Draussenstadt", the project has been selected for the Festival "Uber Wasser"
The toilet facility at the Wildenbruch bridge, transformed by the municipality in a gallery, between the Weingandufer canal and Wildendenbruchplatz is the occasion of the gathering and celebration. The municipality has invited artists to create a project around it with the theme: on the water.
All the events are happening outside and are free of charge.

ACQUA/Wie die Steine auf dem Grund des Flusses is a site-specific performance tailored-suit to Weigandufer Canal next to Wildenbruckplatz.
The performance itself is an ichi-go ichi-e 一期一会 journey.

Concept description in English, Italian and German

ENGLISH
Do you see the flowers?
After such a long, hard period of global pandemic locked up at home: Water!

The desire to be reborn and to bloom

Watering our vital forces, our spirit, our existence
like watering flowers

Healing is a slow process
And the river is long

You heal when you decide which boat to take
Board it

Floating
Floating
on the water

It's the water

A floating object moves
It is the object of the dream...
the unconscious floating on the river of consciousness...

We stand in our existence like stones.
The stones of this river seem hard and unfeeling

We lie down in our existence like stones
The stones in this river look hard, but they are by the water formed
The water flows through

We are all passed through

ITALIANO

Tu li vedi i fiori?

come innaffiare i fiori.
